About GemWorld Studio

A small team building a big, connected world
GemWorld Studio is an independent game studio based in Bordeaux, France. We are a small team by design - small enough to know every system inside out, big enough to build games that hold up over time.
Together we bring decades of combined experience across the entertainment and videogames industry. Before GemWorld, we worked on web, mobile, console, and PC titles, on everything from internal engines, to gameplay, to prototypes with emerging technology. We’ve built backend platforms that handled millions of players, and analytics and messaging systems that handle billions of events. We also did the kind of polish work that only shows up when you already know what to look for. That mix is what GemWorld is built on.
We’re not trying to be the biggest studio. We are trying to build games we want to keep playing ourselves - and that you will want to keep playing too.
Why GemWorld exists
We started GemWorld with a simple goal: make games that are fun, accessible, and worth coming back to. Not “clickbait fun” that wears off after a few minutes, but the kind of fun that pulls you in for one more puzzle, one more discovery, one more session.
For us, that means three things:
- Fun first - every mechanic earns its place by being enjoyable in its own right, not because it boosts a metric or a retention curve.
- Accessible to everyone - no downloads, no installs, no premium gates. Play in your browser, on the device you already own, in your language.
- Worth your time - sessions can be short or long, but every minute should feel like it moved something forward. Skill, exploration, or a small story beat - never wasted clicks.
We also believe that great games come from strong fundamentals: curiosity, attention to detail, fair systems, and respect for player time. Those four words drive almost every decision we make.
How we build
We don’t chase trends and we don’t ship things we’re not happy with. If something doesn’t feel right, we rework it. If it still doesn’t feel right, we rebuild it.
That translates into:
- Skill-based progression - what you achieve comes from how you play, not from luck or a paywall.
- Fair, transparent systems - your inventory, your rewards, and how things are earned are all visible. No hidden mechanics, no surprise costs.
- Worlds that reward exploration - the more you play, the more you uncover. There is always a next layer.
- Mechanics that are easy to learn but have depth - a five-minute first session should be welcoming. A fifty-hour player should still be finding new things.
- One world, many devices - start a session on desktop, continue on your phone, switch to tablet. Your progress goes where you go.
A simple example is our choice to target the web for its ubiquitous nature - play any time, on any device. Not everything needs to be an app. The UI and UX of every game gets developed and redeveloped until it feels just right, no matter what device you’re playing on. And if you happen to speak a language that reads from right-to-left instead of left-to-right, well, we built it for that as well. That kind of iteration is something we are willing to budget for, and we have the time and the freedom that come with being independent to actually do it.
The world we are crafting
GemWorld is a living universe. Each game we add opens up new possibilities in the games already there. Each tale we publish reveals a corner of the lore that connects back into the gameplay. Each creature in the Bestiary has a place in the wider ecosystem - and often a hint to something else.
Nothing here is filler. Items in one game can be used in another. The stories drop clues that show up in the games. The world is meant to be discovered, slowly, by people who enjoy noticing the connections.
GemWorld isn’t “finished” and it’s not meant to be. We keep refining and expanding it, in public, with the players who choose to come along.
