Getting started with GemWorld
GemWorld is a free, skill-based casual gaming portal we built around a single connected universe. Every game on the platform shares the same world, the same inventory, and the same rewards system. What you earn or learn in one game carries forward into the next. That design choice was the founding decision for the site. Multiple small games, but all linked with each other. This page walks you through how it actually works in practice.
We wrote this guide the way we’d explain GemWorld to a friend sitting next to us: how to create an account, how the games connect, how rewards work, and the few things that feel non-obvious.
How GemWorld works
1. Create your free account
Signing up takes about thirty seconds and there is no payment information involved.
You only need to:
- Enter a valid email address
- Choose a password
- Confirm your email when the activation message arrives
Once activated, your account unlocks every game on the portal in one go. There is no separate registration per game and no paid tier to think about. You can play on desktop, mobile, or tablet - there is nothing to download or install.
2. Play the games
GemWorld is a portal: each game is its own experience, but they all share the same world.
At launch you can choose between:
- World Explorer - an exploration and adventure game where you uncover new biomes and creatures.
- Picture Puzzles - image-based puzzles with progressive difficulty.
- Fenwicks Flips - a card-flipping puzzle with a memory and strategy twist.
Each game tracks its own progression (XP, available actions per session, daily objectives) but draws on the items, currency, and achievements you already own. More games will be added over time.
Results in every game depend on what you do, not on chance. The better you play, the more you progress, and the more the wider world opens up for you.
3. Earn Gold and items
By playing, you earn Gold - the in-game currency - along with items that go into your shared inventory. Anything in that inventory can be used across every GemWorld game.
You earn Gold by:
- Playing games and completing objectives
- Hitting score milestones inside each game
- Claiming achievement bonuses when you unlock them
- Logging in on consecutive days - the login streak rewards build up over time
Your Gold balance is visible at all times in your profile, and every transaction is logged so you can see exactly where everything came from.
4. Discover the world
GemWorld is not just a stack of unrelated games. Each session reveals a little more of a connected universe:
- The Bestiary catalogues every creature you can encounter, by biome and rarity.
- The Tales from GemWorld are short stories that expand the lore - and often drop hints that pay off inside the games.
- The Infodex is your in-game encyclopaedia for items, creatures, and discoveries.
Exploring the world outside the games is not required, but players who do tend to find things faster, build smarter inventories, and unlock corners the casual player will miss.
Your first session - what we keep seeing
From the patterns we’ve observed across the players who tested GemWorld in its early months, most first sessions go roughly like this:
- Register, confirm email, land on the dashboard. The activation email occasionally lands in the Promotions tab - we’ve started flagging that explicitly because it tripped up the first batch of testers.
- Pick a game. World Explorer is the clear favourite, and most narrative-friendly first pick; Picture Puzzles is the fastest to grasp; other games are blocked until you gain some items in World Explorer.
- Play three or four short rounds. Some games are easy to pick up, while others reveal themselves fully over time.
- Glance at the inventory. Even at session two you usually have something worth looking at.
- Come back the next day. The login streak is where the rewards start to compound - we deliberately tuned it that way.
You don’t need to commit hours. Five minutes is enough to make progress; longer sessions just stack faster. That’s something we integrated from the start.
