Brambletail
The Brambletail is a curious little bundle of motion, rarely staying still for more than a few seconds at a time. Covered in a dense layer of mossy brambles and dotted with clusters of small, colourful berries, it looks as though a piece of the forest itself has decided to get up and wander about.
As the Brambletail scurries through the undergrowth, its bramble-covered coat naturally sheds. Tiny twigs, leaves, and berries fall away in its wake, leaving behind a subtle trail that can either guide or confuse depending on who's following. Interestingly, these discarded berries often take root, making the Brambletail an unwitting gardener of the forest floor.
No one seems entirely certain what the berries taste like - and that's probably for the best. While they look inviting, their effects are unpredictable. Some travellers claim they're sweet and energising, while others insist they have a sour taste and cause vivid dreams or mild hallucinations. The Brambletail itself doesn't seem particularly protective of them, but it will grow skittish if handled too roughly.
Behaviour-wise, the Brambletail is timid but not unfriendly. It will often pause just long enough to observe someone from a safe distance, its small eyes peeking out from beneath layers of greenery. If it feels safe, it may even approach briefly before darting off again in a flurry of leaves and twigs.
While it poses no real threat, the Brambletail is a perfect example of how the forest quietly spreads and renews itself. You may not notice its work at first - but over time, its influence is everywhere.
