Swamp
A massive, moss-covered beast with powerful legs. It wades through deep waters, hunting at dusk. It has an extremely long life

The Fenback Beast is a massive and ancient predator, a creature that seems as though it has existed in the swamp for longer than anyone can remember. Covered in thick layers of moss and algae, its form blends almost perfectly with the murky waters, making it nearly impossible to detect until it chooses to reveal itself.

Despite its size, the Fenback Beast is a patient hunter. It spends long stretches of time submerged or partially hidden, allowing the environment to settle around it. Birds may land on its back, plants may grow across its hide - none of it disturbs the stillness it relies upon.

It becomes most active at dusk, when the light fades and visibility drops. At this time, the Fenback Beast begins to move, wading silently through deeper waters with surprising ease. Its powerful legs allow it to navigate terrain that would trap or slow other creatures, giving it a distinct advantage when hunting.

What sets the Fenback Beast apart, however, is not just its strength, but its longevity. Some believe individual creatures live for centuries, growing larger and more formidable over time. This has led to the unsettling possibility that certain parts of the swamp are dominated by the same creature generation after generation.

It does not hunt recklessly. The Fenback Beast appears selective, targeting prey that strays too close or lingers too long. Once it commits, however, its attack is swift and decisive, leaving little chance for escape.

For those travelling through deeper swamp waters, awareness is essential. The absence of movement, the unnatural stillness of a patch of water - these may be the only signs that a Fenback Beast is nearby.

In a landscape already defined by danger, the Fenback Beast stands as one of its most enduring and patient threats.
