Drowned Guardian
The Drowned Guardian is a towering and deeply unsettling figure, said to wander the oldest parts of the swamp where the water runs deepest and the land itself seems reluctant to hold shape. Cloaked in hanging vines and draped in thick layers of moss, it appears less like a living being and more like a fragment of the swamp given motion.
Legends surrounding the Drowned Guardian are as old as the marsh itself. Many believe it was once a protector of a long-lost city, now swallowed by water and time. Whether cursed, bound, or simply unable to abandon its purpose, it is said to wander endlessly in search of something it can no longer find.
The Drowned Guardian moves slowly, each step heavy and deliberate, sending ripples across the stagnant waters. It does not roam aimlessly - its path seems guided by some lingering instinct, though what drives it remains unknown. It pauses often, as if listening or remembering, before continuing its silent search.
Encounters with the Drowned Guardian are rare, and those who have witnessed it up close often describe an overwhelming sense of being overlooked, as though the creature is focused on something far beyond them. It does not attack without cause, but its sheer size and presence make any encounter a tense one.
There are, however, stories of it reacting to certain ruins or artefacts, lingering longer in areas where remnants of ancient structures lie hidden beneath the water. In such places, the Drowned Guardian becomes more active, its movements more purposeful - as though it is drawing closer to whatever it seeks.
Whether guardian, remnant, or something in between, the Drowned Guardian stands as a reminder that the swamp has a long memory. And whatever it has lost, it has not yet given up the search.
