The Meadowflit is one of the most delicate and elusive inhabitants of the grasslands, a fleeting glimpse of motion and light that many mistake for a trick of the eye. At a distance, it appears to be little more than a slender, deer-like animal grazing quietly among wildflowers. It is only when startled - or when it chooses to move - that its true nature becomes apparent.

The Meadowflit possesses a pair of gossamer wings, fine and translucent, which lie folded neatly along its back for most of its life. These wings are rarely seen in full, as the creature only unfurls them when running at speed. When it does, the effect is breathtaking: wings catching the sunlight, scattering it in soft, prismatic flashes as it bounds across the open plains with impossible grace.

Despite this beauty, the Meadowflit is an intensely nervous creature. It startles at the slightest disturbance - a sudden gust of wind, an unfamiliar scent, or the faintest hint of movement. Once spooked, it will not simply flee; it will vanish, covering vast distances in moments before disappearing entirely into the horizon.

This skittish nature makes close encounters exceedingly rare. Those who attempt to approach a Meadowflit too directly will almost certainly fail. The few successful sightings tend to come from those who remain still, patient, and quiet, allowing the creature to pass through the landscape as though they were part of it.

There is some debate among scholars as to whether the wings serve a practical purpose beyond speed. While they do not appear capable of sustained flight, they seem to lighten the Meadowflit's movement, allowing it to glide briefly over uneven terrain or leap effortlessly across tall grasses and shallow dips in the land.

To witness a Meadowflit in motion is to glimpse something almost dreamlike - beautiful, fragile, and gone before you can fully appreciate it. It is not a creature meant to be chased or captured, but one to be observed quietly, if you are lucky enough to see it at all.
